Needle Movers: Propel Your Business Forward
Feb 2nd, 2009 by admin
Spending some time on LinkedIn this weekend, I came across an interesting question. Someone asked, “Do you know what the three things are that will create the business breakthrough you’re looking for?” It went on to state that every business has needle movers that can propel forward and encouraged others to share their thoughts. Of course working capital and strong management team members were commonly cited. Here are other ‘needle movers’ as shared by various members on LinkedIn:
- Perseverance and grit
- A product or service that solves a BIG problem
- Becoming the thought leader to your target market
- Strategic alliances/JVs/partnerships that help leverage the distribution of your product/service at minimal costs
- Stop thinking and reading, start doing and writing!
- Innovative, creative and easy-to-use product
- Visible, positive and unfaltering commitment throughout all of the levels of the organization
- Clear alignment of organizational values and objectives
- Leadership that views opportunity as an obligation rather than a risk
- Small consistent actions every day
- Enjoying the journey rather than always striving for the destination
- Showing appreciation to as many people as possible
- Solid knowledge and understanding of your product or service, market size and demand, competitors, and value proposition
- Humility to check your ego at the door, a true sense and understanding of your strengths and weaknesses and the ability to surround yourself with the people whose skills will compliment yours and help you succeed
- Confidence to be your own best sales person, the ability to motivate and lead others, access to necessary amount of working capital and the suaveness and discipline of how to spend it
There are many ways to move the needle when it comes to sales and marketing. And these movers will differ from business to business. For one organization it might be one or two huge needle movers that give it a serious boost. For another, it might be a series of small movers that push it in the right direction little-by-little. So don’t overlook those small opportunities in disguise.
