Free Business Idea: Used Wedding Dresses and Attire
Jul 16th, 2008 by admin
I used to love spending Saturdays hopping from yard sale to yard sale. Mostly I was looking for antiques and other so-called ‘junk’ – items that I knew were worth much more than what they were being sold for. Driving by a large estate sale the other day, one item stood out among all others – even at 30 miles per hour. It was a wedding dress – hanging front and center, like a piece of art nestled within old tools, cardboard boxes and Lego’s. You’ll often find wedding dresses and other special attire at sales such as these – also on eBay, in your local classified ads and within the print of swap and sell it guides. Quite often you can offer someone next to nothing to buy one. So why not start a used wedding dress business? People are always looking for gently-used wedding attire and sometimes they can be tough to come by if you don’t know where or have the time to look. You could set up a virtual storefront so that you are not immediately locked into a hefty lease agreement.
Here’s what’s involved:
Approximate Start-Up Costs: $5,000 or under (cost of acquiring (and dry cleaning) initial stock of 35 dresses at $50/each), e-commerce enabled Web site (can be done via eLance or Guru for under $2,000), telephone system, fax machine, packaging supplies, business cards and miscellaneous supplies)
Potential Names: Second Time Charm, BrideStyle, Something Borrowed…
Barriers to Entry: Existing bricks retailers, eBay and other online auction sites, building brand awareness, quickly finding appropriate inventory…
Once your business is off the ground, you can start adding other attire such as brides maids dress, tuxedos, shoes and so on.
