Dotcom Bubble…Take Two?
Jan 25th, 2008 by admin
I recently had a discussion with some co-workers and friends over the possibility that we were on the verge of another dotcom bubble. Personally, I don’t think we are. For the most part, I think that today’s Internet companies are lean, mean fighting machines. They are built on content, people and advertising - not VC funds and egos. We’ve learned from past mistakes and now have a roadmap, a business model for what not to do. In fact, I’ll go so far as saying that I’m more worried about issues like global trade and foreign competition.
What do you think? Is another dotcom bubble on the horizon? Post your comments.

I don’t see another ‘meltdown’ in the sense we saw before, but I DO see a shakeout in the way advertising revenue is generated. I think that many advertisers are being taken for a ride … and know it. When a better idea comes along, one that delivers real customers in a measurable and economically sane way, they will jump on it.
That will leave the less nimble sites fighting over the crumbs while the more alert ones are enjoying the cake.
So there is a business opportunity … find a way to deliver real customers in a predictable way where ‘dollars in’ = ‘dollars + %’ out.
Great points, Bill! Thanks for the post…
